He only operates as Bloodshot when he deems it necessary. Bloodshot went to Europe and uses his powers to fight corruption, creating a new identity for himself as Michael Lazarus. Mortalli took the name "Bloodshot" and becomes determined to learn who he was and how he was altered. His skin becomes pale, often chalk-white, and his eyes turn red whenever he uses his superpower. Angelo was made into a superhuman by the nanites but lost his memory in the process.
Nanites were injected into his body, leaving a blood-red circle scar on his chest. Originally, Bloodshot was a mafia hitman experimented on by Project Rising Spirit named Angelo Mortalli. Created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton, the character first appeared in a cameo in Eternal Warrior #4 before making his first full appearance in Rai #0, both in November 1992.
